Review of Minority Report (2002) by Joey E — 14 Dec 2011
Spielberg excels at creating palpable environments for his characters to exist in, surroundings that feel authentic and lived-in. With this film, he fashions one of the more realistic Sci-Fi worlds, one that is not too far removed from today's society (technologically speaking).
Tom Cruise brings gutsy determination and pathos to the lead role, providing an empathetic anchor for this brisk man-on-the-run thriller and its truly impressive set pieces (the overhead single-take shot during the "Spider Robot search" is a particular highlight).
The climax is a tad underwhelming, especially when compared to the inventive sequences preceding it, but it's certainly not enough to derail this exciting tale of fate versus free will.
