Review of Minority Report (2002) by Robert D — 17 Jun 2012
If there's anything I love from a good sci-fi movie is a great story and fascinating world. Minority Report delivers that under Spielberg direction and a fantastic performance by Tom Cruise.
Minority Report John Anderton who's convicted of a murder he hasn't committed yet, by a team of psychics called "precogs." The story is very thrilling giving us lots tension when Cruise on the run and it helps it base on Philip K. Dick short story who works also gave us Blade Runner. Much of the fun of Minority Report is the unexpected turns it takes in it story and keeping us guessing what's going to happened next. As much as I enjoyed Minority Report story, it does have noticeable plot holes. Why is Tom Cruise still allowed to enter the Precrime headquarters (which required a eye-scan) despite being a wanted man? Now there's other plot holes I could list, but the real fun is in the movie itself. Seeing Tom Cruise developed and as well as seeing Max von Sydow going playing both sides for his own goals makes this better than the average sci-fi flick. If you don't "nitpick" every single detail in a movie or just simply enjoy the big picture of a movie, this will definitely pass the time.
Spielberg is a master visionary and I was disappointed in his vision of the future to be honest. Now I did like the realistic future setting and how it looked, but to be you've better visions of the future. Though Spielberg does make up for it with his direction and makes this movie a blast to watch and you'll get jaws dropping scenes. My other complain is the color filter of the movie, often time areas were either to bright or to dark which made it impossible to tell what was going on. This is unfortunately a problem in the movie only two action scenes which are hurt by the brightness which often blurs in camera. Yet the color filter can be overlooked because, well this is Spielberg we're talking. The cast of Minority Report is well put together. No matter who's on screen you'll be invested in the what's going on. Tom Cruise makes for one interesting man of the run and this is easily one of the best performances he given.
Minority Report is an interesting si-fi flick with an thrilling direction from legend Steven Spielberg. If you enjoy a good sci-fi flick or a Spielberg movie, this will definitely satisfy.
