Review of Mini's First Time (2006) by Alyssa R — 10 Jun 2007
I would have to agree with the NY Times: the first 20 minutes were deliciously savoured, as Mini relates her back story while driving through the eerily illuminated canyon of downtown LA streets, becoming a call girl for fun, hooking up with her stepdad and devilishly justifying it.
However, it lost steam as soon as the Put-Mom-Out-of-Commission plot began. Then it just became another LA tale of murder and vice. Nikki Reed was good at what she did, although the role didn't really require much in the way of acting.
I stayed around to the end, but the final twist was a groaner, and didn't satisfy me in the least. If the movie had stuck to Mini exploring a new "first" every 10 min or so, this could have been incredible.
