Review of Mini's First Time (2006) by Dinu J — 16 Aug 2008
I was channel-surfing, yesterday, and I came across "Mini's First Time" on Lifetime--yeah, the...women's...network *ahem* . Anyway, at first, I thought it was one of their TV movies, till I saw Jeff Goldblum and I'm scratching my head, thinking something's wrong with this picture (it's been quite awhile since I last saw him on the big screen).
I see Trinity (the Matrix fan in me will only refer to Carrie-Ann Moss as "Trinity",) too, but things got a little more interesting when the opening credits came and I see Alec Baldwin's credit--now I'm interested (not that I'm a big fan of him, or anything).
Even though it had the production value of a Lifetime movie, it did get a theatrical release, independently. But in the end, there's really no bother for anyone to see it. I'm pretty sure you've seen this movie dozens of times before.
...when it had other titles ("Wild Things", "Basic Instinct", and "Unfaithful", could be just a few of those). Had a great concept--an affair between step-father and step-daughter.
But things fall apart like a snap: the plan to get rid of Trinity's character was not only completely stupid, but even worse, it worked, and then some, because she dies (not really part of the plan).
And then from there, the familiar "attempt-to-get-away-with-murder/lies/betrayal" cliche, kicks in. Too tame to be edgy, too lame to even care.
