Review of Minions (2015) by Dann M — 24 Apr 2016
The Minions attempt to carry their own film (and fail horribly) in this Despicable Me spin-off. The story (which is more of a series of skits and jokes) follows three Minions who set out on a mission to find a leader for their people, which they do in Scarlet Overkill; a maniacal super-villain set on stealing the Royal Crown of England.
Sandra Bullok does a good job voicing Overkill, whose cartoonish villainy is a lot of fun. But the plot is just too zany and out of control; it doesn't make any sense and is incredibly dumb. Unfortunately the writers of Minions don't seem to know what they're doing, and it really shows.
