Review of Mindhorn (2016) by Alex S — 29 Jun 2017
I missed you so much Julian Barratt. Like so, so much. Ive also been waiting for this movie for literally years so it felt good to finally see it (on Netflix now for those of us not in the U.K.!!).
I admit that this movie is more of a strong B than an A but that said it's got a good handful of laugh out loud moments and the rest of the film is certainly smile-out-loud. I love those throwback style moments and Julian Barratt as a washed out British Burt Reynolds wannabe is just perfect. I want one of those action figures so bad. Simon Farnaby was also perfect as the sarcastic stunt man still trying to prove himself.
I honestly feel like this would have been better as a tv series but as it was it's charming and fun. It just needed a little more punch... a little more jokes in between the other jokes. But honestly I just miss Julian Barratt so much seeing him just smirk at himself in the mirror is enough to make me happy.
Laugh out loud moments: everything with that terrible rug on his head, classic "you have passed the test" joke, nobody realizing the stunt man is actually hurt during the parade, the kestrel's almost death followed by rude awakening and then ending immediately in death.
