Review of Mind Game (2004) by James R — 12 Jan 2010
Very over-hyped and quite pretentious. There are great moments including some impressive animated sequences. It is annoying that the movie claims it's mix of 'styles' is part of its intentional 'brilliance.
' The only styles I could see were the regular drawn animation and the photograph manipulated animation. Beautifully flowing and creative animation sequences were mixed with horribly stiff, at times wonky animation which is usually best thought of as cost-reduced (i.
E. shipped to Korean stock animation factories,) filler. The second half of the film exponentially loses steam, and it became a challenge to get through it. Double montages at the end, wtf...? Before them I was already counting the minutes waiting for it to end.
It's trying too hard to be profound, and if there is anything interesting or original to be deduced, I'm sure the majority of the fan-boys have not a clue.
