Review of Mimic: Sentinel (2003) by David L — 17 Feb 2013
The problem with this franchise is that it's becoming apparent that the budget for these films must be getting less and less, and ultimately so is the quality. No time is spent focusing on the killer cockroach, probably because they can't do the special effects justice, and it is not scary in the slightest.
It is not a particularly long film anyway, but it does start to get a tad boring as the bulk of the film just takes place in a bedroom and we have to sit and watch the main lad just taking pictures and telling the story of odd goings on in his neighbourhood through his camera lens.
It made me chuckle because I'm not normally one for spotting a faux pas but the reason he stays in his bedroom is because he is extremely susceptible to germs, and even breaks into an asthma attack when someone who had a cigarette two days ago just stands in front of him.
How he therefore manages to cope with being trapped in a house fire at the end of the film, I'll never know!!! There's really very little action to get excited over in this and even though the first two weren't exactly blockbusters this has still failed to live up to them.
I guess there's only so far you can go when trying to make a breed of 6ft killer cockroaches growing up in a block of flats look realistic!
