Review of Mimic (1997) by James R — 23 Aug 2009
As usual, genetic engineering goes wrong resulting in the main characters fighting for survival in a plot-hole laden action B-movie. The set up of using engineered bugs to rid the world of cockraoches carrying a novel lethal disease was fairly well developed in the begining.
However, the science behind the fiction was weak and seemed contrived. The visuals were adequate for a nineties film and the mimicry technique was eeriely suspenseful. however, as with most giant insect movies, the habitat never seems to have enuogh food to support growth to that size posing the question of how did they get THAT big? another big dissappointment was setting up the subplot of Mira Sorveno's character trying to get pregnant.
After a negative test that "could be wrong" the idea was never mentioned again. a little resolution would have been nice.
