Review of Mimic (1997) by David L — 28 Sep 2009
Better than expected. It was a dark, mysterious setting within the labyrinth of the subway that created quite an eerie background for this movie. It was intriguing the fact that we didn't fully know what the predator was until it slowly but surely began to reveal it's characteristics through its attacks.
On occasions the darkness hindered the enjoyment as it wasn't 100% clear what was happening, but with the emphatic sound effects, you could probably get the gist that someone was being devoured. It drifted into 'Alien' territory what with the big finale, but it still worked, as I wasn't left disappointed.
I'd be weary about what the two sequels entail though, as I think it could be difficult to develop this movie and still maintain that element of realism and suspense in there, without making it so far-fetched it becomes unwatchable.
