Review of Milton's Secret (2016) by Michelle V — 06 Oct 2016
Don't let critics bully you or your family into missing this film. Spoiler alert: you won't be over stimulated with special effects, unrealistic characters or an adrenalin rush. However, you will find an intelligent, heart warming story that will stay for with you for days (or a lifetime).
You may resonate with the parents, doing the best they can in uncertain times, or remember what it was like to be 11 and be the target of bullying, sorting through effective ways to respond (which this film does an excellent job exploring).
Or the bully may catch your attention, in which case you will see beyond the illusion of power. Or you may resonate with Grandpa (and the amazing performance by Donald Sutherland), knowing you can make a real difference in someone else's life or many lives, when present.
The lesson within is worth learning and time well spent. This is an authentic film with an authentic story, courageously told by a strong cast and director. Don't miss it!
