Review of Million Dollar Baby (2004) by Gabe C — 17 Feb 2014

It works on more levels than it fails in the end, mostly, in the second two thirds. The first third was incoherent. I couldn't really get into what was going on... It felt like at that point the movie wasn't sure what it wanted to be, so it tried a few things.

Scenes feel out of place, and characters do things out of character. It just confused me. And it felt a bit obnoxious, cliched, and stale on the editing side. For the most part, the next two thirds worked really well, a few minor flaws aside, but it doesn't completely make up for the first half.

We get a really powerful performance here though, well done Hilary Swank.
