Review of Million Dollar Baby (2004) by Man With N — 15 Jul 2013
Million Dollar Baby is the story of a woman in her early thirties (Hillary Swank) who takes up boxing. Her coach reluctantly takes her under his wing and teaches her what she needs to become an exceptional boxer.
It was a good start, getting our hopes up and making Maggie a star. What was not preferable is that Maggie has a large amount of matches, but many are not shown for very long or not at all. It is just shown that she wins but does not give us the full story.
When Maggie makes it up to her final match, she gets paralyzed from the neck down and is from then on living her life in a home. After much protest, Frankie finally cooperates with Maggie -- and mercy-kills her because she hates living life that way.
The acting was superb, however the story was missing certain aspects.
