Review of Million Dollar Arm (2014) by Tyler R — 08 Feb 2015
I'm quite curious as to whether or not there is a literal color by numbers outline for sports films over at Disney studios. The only reason I say this is because Million Dollar Arm adheres to the tried and true formula that every single Disney true story sport's film has stuck with for as long as I can remember.
This film follows a down on his luck sports agent who decides to start looking for talent in India. If you know Disney sport films, then you know the outline of this one. It isn't particularly bad, it's just been done before.
The pacing is steady, the resolution is sweet and heartfelt, and it is a clean(ish) family film. The only thing that holds this one from being below run of the mill is the cast, with Jon Hamm and Alan Arkin having nice chemistry together.
Other than that, there really isn't much more to say about this film other than you've seen it before, only with a different sport in a different year, but under the same House of Mouse.
