Review of Million Dollar Arm (2014) by Hytham E — 14 Dec 2014
This really isn't the insightful biographical story of Rinku Singh and Dinesh Patel, two kids who never played baseball but within months, ended up as the first Indian nationals to sign a contract with a Major League Baseball team. That story, properly told, would have been compelling. But instead, the film is more about sports agent JB Bernstein (his struggles and accomplishments). Who? Exactly.
This is a by-the-numbers sports movie from Disney and a very predictable one, as well. It is also clumsily made with the filmmakers taking very little effort in containing its on location filming on the streets of India as extras looked straight into the cameras. Leaving them in the film's final cut showed editing negligence or a couldn't-care-less attitude on their part.
