Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Johannes J — 07 Feb 2009
Another awesome flick in the Coen Bros.' back catalog (along with classics such as Fargo, The Big Lebowski, No Country for Old Men, etc.). Miller's Crossing is a slow paced but ultimately rewarding homage to old gangster flicks of the 30's. The Coen brothers aptly mix references to old gangster movies with their original script and unique dialogue. Gabriel Byrne, John Turturro and Albert Finney have rarely been as good as they are in their roles here. The plot is intricate and scenes often mix dark humor with drama. Also, keep an eye out for an amusing cameo by Spider-man director Sam Raimi as one of the cops raiding a saloon at towards the end of the movie.
Best scene: The attempted hit one Leo while Danny Boy plays in the background.
Best line: I've had it to here with the high hat!
