Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Michael D — 02 Aug 2011
The Cohen brothers are usually a hit or miss.
This, while still good, was a miss.
I understand what they were trying to do, make a homage to the 30s gangster films, but it didn't work for me.
The best parts of the film were the funny quirky moments, normal to the Cohen brothers. Such as when to gangsters try to take out a Crime Boss (Albert Finney), or when our protaginist Tom (Gabriel Byrne) is about to be beaten up by some Italians.
The performances were good, ecspicailly from Byrne and Marcia Gay Harden, who plays Tom's mistress.
Maybe my rating will go up further when I see it again.
