Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Harry W — 23 Aug 2013
I am upfront that the Gangster genre or even Coen films in general, are just not my cup of tea, and this was no different.
I mean it's well acted, shot and the production design is great, but I just couldn't get into it minus the more violent scenes.
It is a long film with a ton of dialogue and little action. I for one could not relate to Byrne at all. He had a mouth on him, but seems like he was always getting smacked around and never did anything about it. Lied to others to do their work for him. He was such a wussy.
I really liked Finney, but he just disappears through most of the second hour.
Nice cast, but most of them play such hateful characters I couldn't wait to see most of them die.
A very well made movie, movie was just not for me.
