Review of Miller's Crossing (1990) by Wes M — 24 Jul 2010
One of my favorite Coen Brothers films. This is so beautiful to watch, cinematographer Barry Sonnenfield sums it up as a Handsome movie about men in hats. And it's very handsome indeed. It's perfectly acted,Albert Finney is superb as mobster boss Leo O'Bannon, who relies too much in adviser Gabriel Bryne, who plays a well connected gangster who "sees all the angles",but unfortunately has fallen for Leo's Moll Verna played by Marcia Gay Harden.
The script is wonderful,it's so cool and smooth. The score by Carter Burwell is perfect, with the main theme washing over the film throughout. This really is a masterpiece, and it gets better every time you see it.
Superb.
