Review of Millennium Actress (2002) by Fahruq A — 04 Aug 2008
Satoshi Kon did yet another wondrous job with this film. I just love complex storytelling where the actual resolve is revealed right at the ending while you're on a roller coaster throughout the film. I think that's the way it should be.
The story was gripping and rather moving. A woman chasing this simple memory of a man she knew when she was a kid and her unyielding passion to meet with him again, a promise fueling it. This sort of reminded me of Memoirs of a Geisha in that the main protagonist did her thing just so she could be close to the one she loved.
The ending truly surprised me in which she confessed that she had found that what she really loved was something very different. Overall, fantastic and artistic film.
