Review of Millennium Actress (2002) by Gerlando G — 12 Mar 2011
If Perfect Blue made director Satoshi Kon famous, this movie, Millennium Actress made him the third musketeer of japan animation, along with Miyazaki and Mamoru Oshii.
The plot and its entire structure is brilliant: an old famous actress, Chiyoko, talks about her entire life for a documentary dedicated to her long career. Chiyoko confuses her life memories with various parts of her movies, creating in this way a stream of counsciouness where her personal story is entwined with the entire story of Japan.
Moreover, the quality of animation and music is outstanding.
