Review of Milk? (2012) by Meredith W — 26 Apr 2013
"Milk" is an interesting biopic and a very good film due to its stellar casting. Sean Penn is outstanding as Harvey Milk, the eloquent, inspirational gay activist. The incorporation of archive footage from 1970s San Francisco, added authenticity and interest, but as the film is focussed primarily on the politics of the time; it is difficult for the audience to truly connect with the characters.
In particular, I didn't find Harvey that likeable a character, but maybe that is part of the film's success, realistically presenting a hero who is also fallible and human.
