Review of Mile 22 (2018) by Donald P — 22 Aug 2018
I was drawn to this movie as a martial arts fan when I saw Iko Uwais. While Iko's choreography and intensity is at its max someone behind the scenes failed to cooporate and capture any of it. Every fight scene is so shaky and zoomed in that the action happening is either too shaky or not even on screen. Peter Berg says he knew he needed Uwais when he saw the Raid films but he failed to learn any lessons that the raid director Gareth Evans taught with those films.
Even during the shootouts in the street or in buildings aren't set up with any semblance of where anything is. At moments you know where our main characters sit but not where any threats are, we just know that they are there.
