Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Giffy G — 26 Oct 2007
So, apparently, Joan Crawford left MGM and took her close-ups with her. This movie was a weird hybrid: film noir and melodrama, MGM and WB, "men's" movie and "women's" movie.
The hybrid itself was intriguing, and the way it was filmed was also interesting, but I must say otherwise for the plot. I didn't understand half of Mildred's motivations. I think she was simply motivated by the script.
I hated Veda, and wanted her dead quite early in the movie, but the OTHER daughter died... somehow. The music cues were funny, the plot was pathetic, the frame narrative was annoying, but it was well-filmed and well-acted.
