Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Liz S — 01 Apr 2008
Hush...Hush, Sweet Charlotte is a very suspenseful and interesting horror film staring Bette Davis. It is often compared to Whatever Happend to Baby Jane, a film I really like, but I think I liked this a little more.
The Letter was kinda dissapointing for me, as I was hoping it would be more of a mystery instead of a character study. Still, Bette Davis was good in the lead role.
Mildred Pierce is a very good mystery, which won Joan Crawford an Oscar for her performance as the lead character.
Mommie Dearest is based on actress Joan Crawford as told in the best selling book by the same name, written by her daughter Cristina Crawford. I do think that the movie should have been filmed in black and white as some of the make-up effects weren't very realistic looking. The movie is wildly over-the-top in parts, but is so entertaining that I can't help but recommend it for it's cult value.
Sleuth is a very fun movie that stars Laurence Olivier and Michael Caine as two Englishmen in a battle of the wits. Sleuth was remade in 2007 and didn't look too good, but at least it introduced me to the original.
