Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Kenneth G — 10 Apr 2008
Carol Burnett is responsible for me liking this one. I saw her spoof of it first as a child and then I saw this years later as a teenager and was hooked. Joan Crawford is at her padded-shouldered best in this brilliant film noir.
Ann Blythe is mesmerizing as the spoiled daughter, Veda. And Eve Arden gives the definitive performance of the wisecracking best friend of the leading lady.
