Review of Mildred Pierce (1945) by Keith C — 04 Sep 2011
Film Noir at its finest. After recently seeing the "Winslet" version they truly toned down the sexual part in this film. Without a doubt this is one of Crawford's finest film roles that truly gives her the "respect that she is entitled to".
Crawford earned her Oscar for this one but the supporting players are equally brilliant in their own right with their performances. Ann Blythe set the tone for all other "evil spirited" adolescent characters as spoiled daughter Veda.
She was the epitome of sweet and evil with no visible distinction of each in the delivery of her lines. Brilliant! Kudo's to Eve Arden and Jack Carson in this film too. It's not only worth watching, it's worth watching over and over again.
