Review of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) by Shelby C — 06 Jul 2016
Mike & Dave is like a lot of comedies today, it was funny but I wish it had been funnier. I have seen some comedies recently that are funny, but I never laughed out loud. In Mike & Dave there were moments I did laugh out loud, but there was an equal amount of jokes that just didn't do it.
Zac Efron's performance was similar to his other comedy performances, never too over the top. Adam DeVine played Adam DeVine (also I'm starting to think that any movie wanting an actor from Workaholics gets roped into a package deal).
Aubrey Plaza started out the movie speaking in this weird dialogue that was a little irksome. The acting felt a little unnatural by all the leads in some scenes. It managed to squeeze some heartfelt moments in toward the end, and after some of its funniest moments might be in the blooper reel.
Mike & Dave is a light summer comedy that is fun to watch, but will be forgotten in the fall.
