Review of Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates (2016) by Charlie D — 24 Jul 2016
This film is getting mixed reviews from critics, and is not really making all that much money. After three weeks, it has made only 40 million domestically. I thought it should have made at least 60 by now.
Why? Because this does what a great R-Rated summer comedy should do: be funny. Of all the adult comedies coming out, this really by far is the best one of the summer. I really enjoyed "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising", but this one I thought had better comedic chemistry amongst the leads.
You have four incredibly talented people, and all four combined make a comedic powerhouse. In my review, I stated that I think Anna Kendrick and Adam Devine stole the scenes for me. Aubrey Plaza has gotten critical acclaim for her performance, and deservedly so, because she really is a comedic force not to ever be messed with.
Zac Efron films really should be more profitable than they have been in the last few years. "We Are Your Friends" should have made at least 25 million domestically, "Neighbors 2: Sorority Rising" should have grossed at least 115 million domestically.
I wonder why no one sees his films, he is obviously loved by many. I also think this film brought what Adam Devine does on "Workaholics". Though he is really funny in the "Pitch Perfect" franchise, he is very toned down.
This film should be seen by a lot more people because I think this film is the comedy of the summer time because it does what it is supposed to do: make us laugh. And when I went to the sneak screening, I laughed incredibly hard constantly throughout the entire 98 minute running time.
