Jeff Nichols is a master at putting raw, American exteriors on the big screen with a romantic, filmic quality, and this wonderous little genre thriller is no exception. The film feels as if someone combined Spielberg's E.
T. THE EXTRA TERRESTRIAL with an art house-superhero hybrid. This is a bizarre, Frankenstein-esque concoction that is sweet, emotional, exciting, and incredibly brilliant.
