Review of Midnight Son (2007) by Bryan L — 20 Jul 2012
Tired of vampire movies? I feel your pain. But trust me, this is not your typical vampire movie. Okay, this is a really cornball example, but imagine if Christopher Nolan directed the Twilight series, and instead of baby-faced teenagers with eye-shadow and mascara, the characters are just ordinary people with jobs and stress and everyday crap we all deal with.
It also explores the hypothesis of love and the bond shared between two people who "get" each other, which I guess is what Twilight is about, but stay with me! There are no car chases, gunfights, explosions or elaborately choreographed martial arts.
Scott Leberecht dishes up a dark, atmospheric character study that leaves you just as morbidly satisfied as its bloodthirsty protagonist. Seconds, anyone?
