Review of Midnight Run (1988) by Ben B — 12 Apr 2009

If still stuck in the cheesy 80's crime-comedy (and with the music to prove it), this film achieves what some did not. There is a stunning attention to plot detail and humor that drives the piece smoothing from start to finish. De Niro's character goes through so many struggles that it simply becomes absurd and one is forced to laugh with him at the end. Grodin does exceptionally well alongside De Niro, keeping an air of mystery that forces the audience to believe he has something else up his sleeve.

While not masterfully made in terms of cinematography or editing, the piece has its better parts and, in the end, forms itself into a worthwhile picture.
