Review of Midnight in Paris (2011) by Theo F — 22 Sep 2012
This may be one of the very few films that i've seen by Woody Allen, but I can pretty much assure you it's one of his best. The sheer genius of the storyline is outstanding. Owen Wilson who plays the main man, Gil, plays he part to perfection.
He has fallen in love with France, and wants to live there the rest of his days if it wasn't for his wife Rachel Mcadams, Inez. One night his wife and her friends which they meet in France while they're there get a taxi home, but Gil chooses to walk through the streets or Paris at night to get back to his hotel.
Eventually he gets lost, so he sits on some stairs which lead up to someones house not knowing what to do. Then a taxi drives past, which to his unknowing drives him back to mid 20th century Paris. I don't want to ruin to much, but what leads on from there is truly beautiful.
Allen gets what feels like the full experience or Paris through every shot. The opening sequence shows all different shots of France, which makes you fall in love instantaneously. A true masterpiece by Woody Allen, lifted by the great performances, but most of all by the scenery.
Round of applause to him.
