Midnight in Paris (2011).

I'm not normally a big fan of Woody Allen movies, but I liked this movie about nostalgia.

Gil Pender (Owen Wilson) is a screen writer with dreams of writing a novel. However, he's suffering from writers-block. He's traveled to Paris with his Fiancée Inez (Rachel McAdams) and her parents, John (Kurt Fuller) and Helen (Mimi Kennedy).

Paris is a place for writers, or at least it was at one time, in the 20's, with the age of expatriated, iconic writers and artists like Ernest Hemingway (Corey Stoll) and Gertrude Stein (Kathy Bates), Salvador Dali (Adrien Brody), F. Scott (Tom Hiddleston) and Zelda Fitzgerald (Alison Pill), etc.

So while Inez goes out dancing or shopping, Gil wanders the cobblestone streets at night and finds that he's confronted with these people from his golden age. He comes back to his hotel room inspired. He even brings his story to have Gertrude Stein read for him.

In one of his travels back in time, Gil meets up with his muse, Adrianna (Marion Cotillard) who was Picasso's mistress. Like him, she's not satisfied with her present and would prefer to go back even further in time.
