Review of Midnight in Paris (2011) by Willie J — 10 May 2014
"Midnight in Paris" is intelligent, thoughtful, and downright enjoyable. The cinematography and art direction keeps the lightness of the tone, which makes you want to smile the whole time. This film is more of a showcase of Allen's ideas of art and finding one's artistic inspiration.
Owen Wilson plays the Allen persona with twist of his own persona and it is very fun to watch. He isn't neurotic to the point of being jittery, but is anxious enough to deliver Allen's lines perfectly.
The other pieces of acting in the film aren't really standout works they are just really good pieces of acting. This is just a really good movie. It's lack of groundbreaking nature or exceptional components is forgiven for it's amazing execution of direction, writing, and acting.
An enjoyable movie with enough ideas and a beautiful look to entertain and put a smile on your face.
