Review of Midnight in Paris (2011) by Mitch B — 15 Jan 2013
Beautifully photographed and often entertaining, Midnight in Paris is Woody Allen's homage to the old world. Wilson's Gil pines for a bygone era of high-minded simplicity, when art was seemingly seeping out of every crack in the Parisian city streets.
The characterizations of Hemingway, Stein, Dali, and the Fitzgeralds are exceptionally done. Wilson, while no Woody, is effective enough in the lead. Not a perfect film, but a simple and endearing one.
