Perhaps controversial and hard hitting in its day this is now something quite generic. It's never really that shocking or surprising. I have no quarms with certain artistic license to enhance a story but quite frankly if you're smuggling drugs take your punishment like a man.
It is well acted and cunningly scripted but its overall impact will be down to your personal feelings on the story and events.
