Review of Midnight Express (1978) by Natalie M — 13 Jun 2009
Possibly the finest prison movie ever made. why? because it really happened. alan Parker creates discomfort and tension through out. he deliberately alienates the viewer in scenes portraying authority, by not supplying subtitles.
the soundtrack will disturb you and also help create the feeling of ill-ease. its years ahead of its time and makes use mainly from synths. the cast are outstanding and really have you believing that they are trapped, with no way out and loosing there minds in there.
Oliver stone's script will completely pull you in. it will even have you cheering for things that you really shouldn't be cheering for (tongue bitting anyone?). Midnight express is a well made and classic film, that will have you screaming at the screen.
A must see.
