Review of Midnight Express (1978) by Jenny T — 21 Apr 2012
A powerful, gritty, and realistic prison drama/thriller inspired by a true story. The unrelenting brutality and depravity of the Turkish prison was captured well, as was the lasting psychological effects. All the performances were strong, but special recognition should go to the legendary John Hurt. Everything about the film feels real, making it especially disturbing. Features an intelligently strong and and insightful screenplay by Oliver Stone.
4/5 Stars.
