Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Steve G — 28 Jun 2008
Midnight Cowboy just hasn't aged well. It's formerly edgy themes and film making don't have the same effect as they once did. The performances are solid, Hoffman's is exceptional, and the relationship between the two main characters is interesting, but I was just never really impressed with the movie.
Mostly, I just found the film making to be distracting at several points. Seeing as Midnight Cowboy is a best picture winner, there will always be a reason to see it. Just don't expect it to really be all that exciting.
