Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Jason R — 02 Feb 2011
One of my all time favorites, Midnight Cowboy is a great movie filled with loneliness. Joe Buck and Ratzo are alone in one of the biggest cities in the world, and as Joe comes to realize, everyone seems to be alone despite the population.
Ratzo and Joe both have dreams of what it would be like if life was as they imagined it, but they realize that they have to settle for what is given to them and try to make the best of it. Joe and Ratzo are great original characters and Midnight Cowboy demonstrated a new type of film to win an Academy Award.
It is dated in parts (aka the trippy party), but taken in context of the film, it presents an interesting perspective of the time and a clash of cultures. The haunting music helps promote the feeling of isolation of the characters.
