Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Brian S — 30 May 2008
Hoffman's dynamic acting was about the only impressive thing about this movie, with the possible exception of the writing. but that's only a maybe. the film itself is trippy and incredibly dated, with very minimal character development shining through in low-profile conversations and choppy flashbacks.
the story's not even all that interesting. a much less gritty, intense precursor to Taxi Driver. I liked it, but not on any sort of "outstanding best picture winner" level.
