Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Spencer C — 03 Aug 2008
This is not the feel good movie of the year but it will cause you to reflect. The best parts of the film involve Joe Buck (Jon Voight) a polite, kind hearted country boy moving to the big city. Even as he uses sex in a immoral way, to make a quick buck, he is still too nice for his own good.
When an older lady is insulted and didn't realize he was a prostitute and starts crying after thinking she bagged this young guy based on her attractiveness he feels bad for her and ends up paying her.
There are several other instances that show he is too soft to try to be a hussler. I would have liked to have seen Rizzo (Hoffman) and Joe Buck let their walls be torn down more between the two of them but there just wasn't enough time.
