Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Lord N — 18 Apr 2010
I saw this the other day. thanks to that I have one Best Picture winner left to watch. 1999's American Beauty. that aside, I kind of liked this movie. it was an interesting look at the underbelly of New York.
I thought that Hoffman's performance was far better than Voight's. He stole the show for me. I thought that Voight was only OK. I thought that his Naivete was very painful at many moments and that took away from the movie.
I wouldn't have given Best Picture to this one. I would have given it to Anne of 1000 Days instead. it was all in all a decent movie. I would give it an 85 out of 100. I'm glad I watched it. Final Verdict: despite the greatness of its great theme, it wasn't totally Best Picture worthy.
Replacement Winner: Anne of 1000 Days. the acting alone in that movie makes it Best Picture worthy.
