Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Tom K — 20 Mar 2011
This week, I'm going through old Dustin Hoffman movies, and this was a first-watch for me: Hoffman as Ratso Rizzo, a truly unforgettable character of American Cinema.
This movie won Best Picture AND had an X rating...guite a feat for the early 70's. Like "The French Connection," its stark, gross-you-out, "Meanstreets" quality keeps you really uncomfortable through the movie. And the Andy Warhol-esque orgy scene wil remind you of the New Orleans cemetery on acid from "Easy Rider.".
Rotalyn said "His lips remind me of Angelina Jolie's," and I was relieved she was talking about Jon Voight.
Glad to have seen it, but I could never watch it again.
