Review of Midnight Cowboy (1969) by Simon H — 03 Jul 2014
Controversial at the time, Midnight Cowboy is a fantastic film which hooks you in with the wonderful performances. The script is well written and packed with emotion. This is brought to life by the perfect casting of Dustin Hoffman and Jon Voight. The two actors are unrecognisable in the roles and the chemistry between the two is spot on. The characters are the best I have seen the two actors play. Starting as two complete opposites, they soon grow on you enough to make you feel emotional when the end comes.
Away from the script and characters, I felt the use of flashbacks worked well as they expressed to the viewer what was really going through their heads during the situations as the past flashed up. The music was also well chosen with Harry Nilsson's Everybody's Talking fitting in perfectly throughout the film.
Well written, well made and well acted, Midnight Cowboy will surprise you with it's storytelling and will make you leave the film both happy and sad.
