Review of Middle Men (2009) by William M — 02 Feb 2011
A seedy, yet interesting look into the beginnings of internet porn, with a Goodfellas like crime injection in its core. Based on the true story of two cocaine users in L.A., one of whom was a computer geek whiz, who in 1997 devised a plan, (and an ingenious computer program) to allow people from all over the world to purchase porn online with their credit cards instead of those creepy, sticky yellow XXX bookstores in shady neighborhoods.
The men became millionaires in 60 days with their idea, however due to their lack of buisness savvy. entered into shady dealings with Russian mobsters, sleazy lawyers, and one decent family man in Texas to clean up their mess.
The movie is entertaining, however it does jump all over the place on what type of story it wants to paint, leaving you laughing one minute, then sad the next as a family man throws his peaceful safe life away to enter the fast paced sleaze life of a porn mogul.
Final Verdict: Everyone knows that nothing good happens in strip clubs and L.A., in general, and this story drives it home and will make you glad your just a bored married couple with a mortgage and 2.
5 kids. Watch it.
