Review of Middle Men (2009) by Ricky G — 15 Feb 2011
Middle Men is a fun film but it really could have been so much more. It chronicles the men behind the rise of the multi-billion dollar interet porn industry. It's really the story of Jack Harris a Man who is good at solving problems, who ends up creating this massive cash cow.
I have no idea hoe much of this is factual but it's a pretty crazy story. It features Russian mobsters, FBI agents, crooked lawyers, and lots of porn stars. Like I said it's a lot fun but this is a such an interesting man, and the film really fails at telling a very complex portrait of a good but flawed man.
It scratches the surface but I never was as invested as I should have been. There are some stylistic decisions which I wasnt a fan of either, like the inter-cutting which was used at times to show how a particular character was thinking didn't really work for me.
Still worth watching but could you imagine if Paul Thomas Anderson directed this? Oh man.
