Review of Middle Men (2009) by Jason R — 17 Feb 2011
This movie jumps all over the place. I can't say it was well intended, but it does make light of the adult industry with Luke Wilson in the reigns, who has slowly positioned himself as a b-lister, driving Owen's stock way up. Affleck/Damon, these real bros are not, but Luke brings a smarmy likability to his characters that he can usually push us into relating to.
While here, he is very much his own person torn between two separate worlds, while the movie feels like 3 or 4 separate movies. It's also very indulgent and comes across as a wannabe Boogie Nights meets Social Network mash up that ultimately fails at the starting gate.
