Review of Middle Men (2009) by Paul R — 29 Jun 2011
Kind of an interesting movie on how the Internet porn industry was pioneered and established. It really makes you think too on who are the real 'bad guys' (the people making the product for perverts) or the satellite providers, the hotels, and bookstores and videostores that are selling the product? In the end, if say someone were to ban pornography (whatever their sentiments were towards it) they'd have to ban all of those venues since that's where porn gets most of their money from.
Luke Wilson plays Jack Harris, a businessman whom helps two Coked-up, alcoholic technological innovators get their product on the map. In many ways, the movie could be compared to "THE SOCIAL NETWORK" but unlike the Facebook movie, this doesn't have Sorkin's cutting edge dialogue or Fincher's masterliness as a director. The story also skips time too rapidly. Years are passed by just to make a movie under 2 hrs when if more time was given it could've been as good as "THE SOCIAL NETWORK." Unfortunately, in the end it becomes a half-assed "CASINO"-wannabe. But like I said, it really makes you think of how much the Internet changed from being just another place to get news to eventually becoming a global chain for pervs and deviants to log in, find their favorite site, and wank off.
